Nestling in a valley, Shiqiao is the village of the paper masters. Its two main streets house almost 30 family-run businesses which continue to make paper using traditional methods. A mix of bark and hemp is crushed, then left to settle for a day in attractive stone basins. The mixture is then filtered through a sieve and the leaves are laid out on dryers in the shade of the house. The paper made here is ideal for calligraphy and Chinese ink.
