Ancestral Temple of the Chen Family
Comprising a ceremonial room, an area for trade and a temple dedicated to the ancestors, this huge, late-19C complex is typical of Confucian-style architecture. The luxurious decoration reflects the wealth of the Chen family. The temple roof is adorned with a multitude of ceramic statuettes representing mythological animals, soldiers and traditional characters from Cantonese opera. Now home to a Museum of Folk Art, the temple houses exhibits such as traditional pottery from Shiwan and ivory sculptures.
