Bali
The Essential
A paradisiac haven in the Indonesian archipelago, Bali is also its number one tourist destination. But do not let that put you off as the island is fully worthy of its success.
You will be able to choose between sunbathing on the white sandy beach of Mushroom Bay, lounging in the spa of a luxury lodge or trekking off to the hills where terraced paddy fields carpet the hillsides: those at Ubud in the centre of the island are quite exquisite. Don't forget to explore the superb seabed and go hiking to Batur and its lake and caldera.
You are now ready to experience Bali's vibrant culture through magnificent ceremonies. Not a day goes by when a fanfare of sounds and rhythms, colours and perfumes does not inundate the island.
Finally, make sure you tour some of its most beautiful temples: Ulun Danu Bratan, Tanah Lo, on a black rock, Uluwatu, set in an unspoiled landscape. While you may not quite reach Nirvana, you will definitely return with a myriad of unforgettable souvenirs!
