The Essential
West of Ubud, at the confluent of two rivers, where lush, untamed vegetation reigns, the hamlet of Campuhan was, from 1930, the favourite place of residence of numerous foreign artists, including Bonnet and Spies - some of whom still live here. The crest of Campuhan, looking down into the gorge where the Wos River runs, offers the chance for one of the loveliest walks in the surrounding area; the two art museums are also worth a look.
