Puri Lukisan Museum
On show among other works are pictures by the Pita Maha group, which nurtured Balinese art in the 1930-40s: historically limited to Hindu mythology and local folklore, the artists became influenced by foreign styles and expanded their sources to secular themes. The introduction of different media and techniques, broader ranges of colour and western notions of aesthetics (perspective, chiaroscuro, the human form) gave birth to a new wave of painting. Recent and audio-visual works complete the museum's collection.
