Prambanan, a small village in the fertile Javanese countryside, is the site of Indonesia's largest concentration of Hindu-Buddhist temples. One of the treasures of Indo-Javanese art, the lofty outline of Candi Prambanan devoted to the gods of India is also one of the masterpieces on the Unesco World Heritage list. Despite their individual fame, these temples however only make up a small part of the huge complex of 508 shrines that is far from having revealed all its secrets.
