Ratu Boko (South Group)
On a hill sculpted into terraces, this is not only a valuable example of civil architecture of the 8C-9C but also affords a magnificent view of the Prambanan Plain and Merapi Volcano, best enjoyed at sunset. The nature of the site is uncertain: a palatial city (perhaps the former capital of Sanjaya) or monastery... Regardless of its original function, amonumental entrance with multiple porticos, apendopo (pavilion), crematorium andpools dug out of the rock can be clearly distinguished.
