Higashi Museum of Natural History

Installed to the north of Higashi Village, the main populated area of northeast Okinawa-hontō, this museum houses a comprehensive collection of agricultural tools, kitchen utensils, period costumes etc that sheds light on the harsh daily life of the peasants who lived in this mountainous region until the 1960s. In addition to this ethnographic heritage, there is a zoo where you can see local wildlife, albeit in stuffed form: mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibiens.
