Ogi is the southwestern gateway to the island of Sado, and between the 17C and 19C was the export port for gold wares to be shipped to Edo. More lethargic nowadays, the town livens up during the major Earth Celebration (late August), when it moves to the beat of the Kodo drum. The Tarai-bune are another popular tourist attraction; the women used to go out in these large wooden boats to fish for seaweed and abalones along the rocky creeks. The Sadokoku Folk Museum lies west of Ogi and is worth visiting.
