Interesting
An old feudal village nestling on the coast, against a backdrop of hills, Hagi's old samurai quarter remains intact. This little town seems to have eluded modernism and its Edo-era atmosphere feels unchanged. The town is also famous for its kilns and pottery, hagi-yaki, which are characterised by their muted cream and pink colours. Hagi also played a pivotal role in the Meiji Restoration, which, in 1867, overthrew the shogunate, restored imperial power and opened up the country to the West.
