Some 190km/120mi north of the hubbub of Osaka, the charming spa resort of Kinosaki Onsen is a traditional affair that allows visitors to sample a typically Japanese custom. There is a total of seven public baths here, each with its own architectural style and atmosphere. Kinosaki is also worth a visit for its culinary delights, located as it is, so close to the Sea of Japan. It is renowned for the quality of its crab, matsuba kani (available from November to March).
Tucked away on the north coast of the prefecture, between wooded mountains, rivers and splendid beaches, Kinosaki appeals by its incredible tranquillity, well-preserved architectural heritage and the diversity of activities on offer. Relaxing in some of the country’s most famous spas is a truly unforgettable experience.
