This harbour town still houses many memories of its illustrious past. The ruins of the castle built in 1556 by Lord Otomo Sorin can be found in the centre of Joseki Park. The old samurai houses of the Inaba and Hirai families bear witness to the city's military heritage. The port used to be an important commercial hub for Portuguese merchant vessels. The Sala-de-Usuki edifice, reminiscent of a church, along with some lovely azulejos-covered houses, grace Hatcho Ooji shopping street.
