Kurayoshi

Kurayoshi
The Essential
Kurayoshi and its diverse architecture is a typical Japanese provincial town. It once housed the seat of government of the former Hoki province. The historic Shirakabe-dozogun quarter, dwarfed by Mount Utsubuki, is still a marvel of architecture that greatly inspired Taniguchi Jiro in his acclaimed manga A Distant Neighbourhood. Local celebrity, Kotozakura, a well-known sumo wrestler during the 1960s, has been immortalised by a statue and a tiny museum.
