Mihonoseki

Mihonoseki
The Essential
Formerly a rich maritime hub, this little fishing harbour is still used by ships sheltering from the treacherous Cape of Jizo. Set in a deep forest, the Miho-jinja Shinto shrine celebrates Ebisu, divinity of the sea, merchants and music. The paved Aoishi-datami alleyway, lined with old-fashioned stalls and inns such as the Miho-kan (17C), will take you back in time. In his book Japan: An Attempt at Interpretation, famous author Lafcadio Hearn mentions this site extensively.
