Nestled in the depths of a bay where the Pacific laps at the shores, Kochi is best visited on a Sunday, when the weekly market brings the place to life. But this is not the sole interest of the city. Not only does it boast a superb feudal castle (18C) at its centre and a vast botanic garden, it also has the very fine Katsurahama Beach to the south, ready for fans of the seaside to take a dip. The climate here in this region at the south of the island of Shikoku is hot and humid.
