The Essential
A modest hamlet on the Uva mountains leads to the Ella Gap, a fault line that finishes in a 900m/3,000ft-high precipice. While the village is relatively lacking in interest, it makes a pleasant basecamp for hikes to the temples, waterfalls and hidden trails in the vicinity. From Adam's Peak or Ella Rock, you will be treated to panoramic views that stretch as far as the Indian Ocean 100km/60mi away - truly breathtaking!
