The huge metropolis of Bangkok fascinates by its mix of the traditional and the modern. On the west bank of the River Chao Phraya, the Thonburi district, riddled by a maze of khlong (canals), seems to have changed little over the centuries, with its floating markets and houses on stilts. The east bank is home to most of the tourist sights (along the river) and the business district, which are a constant hive of noise and activity. We wager that you will appreciate the peace and quiet of the city's 400 or so temples and its museums, which are home to marvels of Siamese art.
