Ko Phi Phi Le
What it lacks in size this island makes up for with its stunning beauty. Phi Phi Le is surrounded by idyllic beaches - it was on the sands of Ao Maya that Leonardo DiCaprio starred in the film The Beach. Its coral reefs are popular with divers, while its caves, shaped by the sea, contain some very impressive concretions and even some prehistoric paintings, such as those in the Vikings Cave. Phi Phi Le is a jewel where salanganes (from the swallow family) have chosen to build their nests, which are renowned for their supposed aphrodisiac virtues and are used in the preparation of a soup that is very popular in the Far East.
