Khorat (Nakhon Ratchasima)
The Essential
The development of Khorat dates from the Vietnam War, when American troops came to live here. For modern-day visitors to what is Thailand's six largest city, it has the advantage of offering a full range of services and accommodation for tourists on their route eastwards to admire the treasures of the Khmer Empire. The city itself won't hold your attention for long, although as you are more than likely to spend the night here, it's worth taking a stroll along Thanon Chumphon, the large central avenue situated in the heart of a lively shopping district.
