Kalta Minor Minaret

Recommended
An iconic symbol of Khiva, this truncated minaret had been intended to become the tallest ever erected. The architect capable of achieving this feat had to be so exceptional that the Khan of Khiva had decided to eliminate him as soon as his work was completed, in order to prevent him from putting his knowledge to the service of any other princes. Upon learning of this the architect ran away, meaning the "short minaret" was never finished. Entirely covered with green and blue glazed bricks, it lends a touch of vibrant colour to the city of rammed earth.
