Tay Ninh
The Essential
Recommended
Located close to the Cambodian border, Tay Ninh is home to the holy see of the extraordinary Cao Dai religion, created in the 1920s by Ngo Van Chieu, a minor civil servant during the colonial period. During its short history, the religion, which contains the philosophical elements of Buddhism and Taoism, and the organisational aspects of Catholicism, has refrained from adopting any partisan political position. Today, it has around 1.5 million followers.
