Tra Vinh
The Essential
Ringed by water in the Mekong delta, the town of Tra Vinh owes much of its renown to the extremely large Khmer community that lives here, whose origins date back to the time when the delta was part of Cambodia. The Khmer people, who are mainly rice growers, live in houses on stilts and are followers of Hinayana Buddhism, which is practised in the pagodas dotted around the region and provides a fascinating introduction to this people and its culture.
