The Essential
With its brightly coloured façades, Ráquira is a wonderful place to stroll around for a few hours. Founded in 1580, the town is known throughout the country: it has a plethora of shops selling arts and crafts and Colombian tourists come here in droves to rummage around at the Sunday market, renowned for its colourful pottery. The local clay has the distinctive feature of coming in a variety of colours, including black. Just outside the town is the Desierto de la Candelaria, located at an altitude of 2 000m.
