Pasto
The Essential
Interesting
On the doorstep of Ecuador, San Juan de Pasto, in the extreme southwest of Colombia, is the capital of an agricultural and dairy region in the fertile Atriz Valley. Huddled on the eastern slopes of the Galeras Volcano, the city has succeeded in preserving a great deal of its colonial charm in spite of earthquakes and eruptions. Nicknamed "Ciudad Teológica" (City of Theology), Pasto prides itself on the many churches that line its narrow cobbled streets.
