Off the beaten track, but a place that was relatively prosperous during the Spanish colonial period, the small port of Gibara has never really developed. Here, you'll find a humble fishing village with streets that have suffered over the years characterised by rickety dwellings, power cables criss-crossing the streets and deserted warehouses. In the heart of town, with it two pretty main squares, many of the stately buildings are showing the patina of time.
