Climbing La Soufrière

Highly recommended
The most popular and best-marked path for ascending La Soufrière is the Chemin des Dames, starting from the old parking area at La Savane-à-Mulets. This pebbly path leads after 35min to the Faujas landslip (occurred in 1798), then to the Grande Faille (great fault), heading right to La Soufrière's crater. Follow signs and be aware of acidic discharges that can irritate the throat. Descend along the same path; a 3hr round-trip (fit walkers only). An alternative route lies to the east via the the Échelle pass.
