Fourth largest town of Martinique, Sainte-Marie is the oldest parish of the island, founded in 1658 by the Dominican monks. Built in 1891, the current white church in Jesuit tradition overlooks the village's rooftops and coconut trees. Opposite the town, the little island of Ste-Marie is linked to the mainland by a tombolo, a 400m-long sandbank. Venture inland to see the banana and sugar cane plantations by little roads (D23, D24bis and D24) admiring countless views of the coast along the way.
