Markets south of the Zócalo

Interesting
The Benito Juárez and 20 de Noviembre markets south of the Zócalo feature a wide range of regional products for sale, including the specialities that have given Oaxaca its culinary reputation: cheese (quesillo), dried meat (tasajo) and, more unusual, grasshoppers (chapulines). You can sample them on the spot at one of the many fondas (stalls).

Mexico: Death is delicious in Oaxaca

The Day of the Dead is one of Mexico’s most important holidays. In a country where food is an integral part of culture, the dearly departed are honoured most deliciously, especially in Oaxaca, where El Día de los Muertos is also the Day of Great Feasts.
