The tiny mountain village of Andahuaylillas hides a jewel of Baroque architecture, worth a trip in its own right. Built by the Jesuits in the 17C, the simple facade of San Pedro Church (dubbed the Sixtine chapel of the Andes) conceals an interior of unprecedented wealth and ornamentation... Altarpieces, paintings and multi-coloured frescoes adorn every square centimetre of the walls, while the Mudejar-style ceiling glitters in gold. Before leaving, take a glimpse at the organs.
