Archaeological Museum of Trujillo

Interesting
The Archaeological Museum, installed in 1995 in a handsome 17C house and run by the National university of Trujillo, features seven rooms offering a didactic and chronological picture of pre-Columbian cultures of northern Peru: collections of Cupisnique and Salinar potteries, a model of Caballo Muerto, significant Mochica ceramics up to the Incan period, wooden Chimú idols from Chan Chan, together with artefacts from the excavation of the pyramids of Moche, in particular from the Huaca de la Luna.

Our reports

Recently excavated Pre-Incan treasures

Finely chiselled gold jewellery and puma-shaped, stirrup-spout earthenware bottles – the recent discoveries of the Moche culture unearthed at the Trujillo archaeological site and in the tomb at Lambayaque bear witness to the expert craft skills of the early Andean cities along the northern coast of Peru.
