Iquitos, erected on the left bank of the Amazon River, is 3 700km from the mouth of the river and only accessible by air or water. A flight over the Amazon jungle out of Lima will reveal an amazing cartography of rivers and at the end of the trip, the vestiges of late 19C wealthy mansions and the amazing higgledy-piggledy floating constructions of the Belén district, the culture shock is stunning! The Amazon forest on the doorstep of the town will provide the opportunity for lovely excursions organised by local guides.
