Paita
The Essential
Interesting

Encircled by immense sandy beaches, the small fishing port of Paita has lost none of the cachet of its old colonial houses adorned with balconies. During the Spanish era, English pirates, notably Cavendish and Francis Drake, shot their cannons over the town several times. A long-standing legend claims that the moonlit nights at Paita are more beautiful and romantic than anywhere else. Hence the popular Peruvian proverb: estar en la luna de Paita, which literally translates as "being in the moon in Paita" means "being in love".
