Admont Abbey

Recommended
The Benedictine Admont Abbey has been one of Christendom's great cultural centres since it was founded in the 11C. It remains so to this day, with a library that houses 1 400 manuscripts and 150 000 volumes in an appropriately splendid Rococo building. After admiring the upper gallery, with its wrought-iron balustrade, note the ceiling frescoes by Bartolomeo Altomonte and Josef Stammel's famous groups of sculptures, The Four Last Things.
