The little town of Murau lies in the upper Mur valley and was already celebrated in the late 19C for its clean air and pleasant climate. Overlooked by its castle, the historic centre, with its narrow streets, is undeniably charming. The Raffaltplatz suggests a certain Italian influence. Murau's main building is the Church of St Matthew, with a majestic Gothic nave and imposing decorations.
