The Essential
Imst, with its fountains topped by ancient statues, huddles round the 15C Parish Church of the Ascension (Pfarrkirche Mariae Himmelfahrt). It was remodelled in the Baroque style in the 18C, and although later damaged by a fire, it has preserved its Gothic portals and late-medieval frescoes. Its 84m belfry is the tallest in the Tyrol. Masks and costumes from the well-known Imst Carnival can be seen in the museum.
