The Essential
Interesting
During the Renaissance, Schwaz was the Tyrol's second most important town, after Innsbruck, thanks to its large copper and silver mines. Attracting the attentions of the emperor and financial powerhouses of the period (the Fugger family from Augsburg, in particular), the town enjoyed a prosperity that is still visible today in the extensive dimensions and decoration of its monuments, all built between 1450 and 1520.
