Diest
The Essential
Interesting
Diest, set in a bend of the River Demer, is a charming and peaceful town encircled by ramparts. It boasts corbelled houses and a UNESCO-listed begijnhof. Cradle of the House of Orange-Nassau, Diest is the birthplace of Prince René of Châlon, who chose as his heir his cousin William Nassau, founder of the dynasty to which King Willem of the Netherlands still belongs.
