Lobbes
The Essential
The history of Lobbes is inextricably linked to that of St Landelin, a converted brigand, who founded a Benedictine abbey near the Sambre in the 7C. It enjoyed an extraordinary religious, political and intellectual influence. While "Lobbes la Savante" was destroyed by French revolutionaries in 1794, happily St Ursmar Collegiate Church has survived.
