Namur, at the confluence of the Sambre and the Meuse River, was once a major - and often besieged - military site. Overlooked by its citadel, the city has a lively historical centre that offers opportunities for pleasant strolls, thanks to its pedestrian streets, its churches and its museums. Namur, a city that prospered mainly thanks to trade and administration, is also a university city, a renowned tourist destination and the political capital of Wallonia, seat of the province's Parliament.
