Archaeological Museum

The Archaeological Museum is housed in the Ahmed Bej mosque (1575). It displays archaeological finds discovered on the region's neolithic sites (statuettes representing animals and humans), Thracian ritual stelae, Roman mosaics and medieval jewellery (10C-14C). The museum also illustrates the rich past of a city which was one of the last towns of present-time Bulgaria to fall under Ottoman rule. Nearby are the remains of the Roman baths of Pautalia (the Roman name of the town) and of the temple dedicated to Asclepios.
