The Essential
This is a city of historical importance; it was here in 1187 that the treaty of Lovec was signed, giving birth to the second Bulgarian Empire. Lovech's name is also associated with repression; the communist regime interned its opponents here. Of architectural interest is the Covered Bridge, a faithful reproduction of the original masterpiece created between 1874 and 1876 by architect Kolju Ficeto, the builder of Veliko Tarnovo.
