The mountain city of Kotel is a carpet-making centre. There are interesting buildings including a Museum of National Awakening where, among other exhibits, you will be able to see, housed in the crypt, the tomb and the sword of the champion of the national cause, Rakovski (1821-67). Make your way to the top of the town. The Galata district comprises a fine group of wooden houses. One of these is the home of the Ethnographic Museum which contains carpets, costumes, musical instruments, frieze garments and the tools used to make them.
