Bulgaria is not yet one of the most popular destinations in the world... And yet, it has no lack of outstanding monasteries, traditional hamlets, unspoiled valleys, rugged mountain ranges and long sandy beaches. Indeed, from seaside pleasures to winter sports, without forgetting hiking excursions and cultural outings, this small country, still off the tourist track, has much to offer.
Pirin National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is dotted with forests, waterfalls and glacial lakes. A few miles away is the sumptuous monastery of Rila, while the extraordinary treasure of the Thrace necropolis of Varna stands on the doorstep of the popular beaches and family seaside resorts of the Black Sea. The red sandstone rocks of Belogradčik paint a unique picture, only a short distance from the country's youthful, orientally-inspired capital, Sofia.
Long walks in the historic town of Plovdiv, the most beautiful of Bulgaria, will appeal as much as the joyful dances around the tables of an inn of Rhodopes. All the more so, as it is more than likely that the Bulgarians will invite you to join in their carefree dance!
