Square of the Republic

Interesting
This square was directly inspired by St Mark's in Venice. It stands on the garden laid out by Marmont and is lined with arcaded edifices and the elegant orange-coloured façade of the neo-Renaissance Prokurative adorned with Venetian lions (late 19C-early 20C). To the north was the theatre, whose wings housed the municipal buildings. The square currently hosts open-air shows, particularly the Split Festival in early July.
