Zagreb does not claim to abound in architectural gems, but its charm is elsewhere: in the alleys and staircases of its upper district, dotted with palaces, and in the historicist façades of its lower town. Nowadays it is above all a lively, young town whose café terraces invite visitors to rest their weary feet. The Croatian capital has also forged a name for itself as a leading cultural destination.
