Cyprus
The Essential

An island with something for everyone! Deserted beaches (fantastic along the Karpas peninsula) and lively seaside resorts just a flip-flop walk away: Agia Napa to dance until you drop, Paphos for quality time with the family and Polis if you need to recharge your batteries.
Troodos in the mountainous heart of the island, home to cedars and mouflon sheep, is very peaceful. The island is a natural paradise, ideal for hikes and walks along trails or motoring excursions, to explore the Byzantine chapels for which the island is famous.
Cyprus also boasts an exceptional cultural heritage ranging from ancient cities to larger-than-life souvenirs of the Franks, such as the Gothic ogival arches and facades that adorn the cathedrals of Nicosia and Famagusta, flanked by palm trees. Strategically located in the Mediterranean, the island is a crossroads, rich in the scents of the East in the bazaars of historic Nicosia and in the Ottoman caravanserai, Büyük Han (Great Inn), now an arts centre.
