New City: Mucha Museum

Alfons Mucha (1860-1939) made his name in Paris with his posters for Sarah Bernhardt (1895). He became one of the masters of Art Nouveau, a style that he abandoned upon his return to Prague so as to concentrate on more politicised works (such as the The Slav Epic, comprising a series of 20 paintings, exhibited at the National Gallery), stained-glass windows for St Vitus Cathedral, decoration of Municipal House, and even engravings for banknotes. Perhaps the most interesting section of the museum is that dedicated to his oil paintings.
