Århus, capital of the west of Denmark, is the country's second largest port. Its position on the east coast of Jutland facilitated its economic rise, which today is based on electronics, communications, design and the food industry. In addition to this industrial vocation, the city is remarkably dynamic culturally. In addition to a renowned Fine Arts Museum, the archaeological institute and large music complex are testament to its cultural vitality, of which its two prestigious festivals are further confirmation. Little wonder that it was chosen as European Capital of Culture for 2017.
