Located in the middle of Holmsland Klit, a strip of land separating the fjord from the sea, the town of Hvide Sande and its fishing port grew after the canal and the locks connecting the fjord and the sea were completed in 1931. The port is now ranked the country's fifth largest. The town has a fabulous beach overlooking the sea, and the fjord is a paradise for windsurfers. The short footpath on the crest of the dunes, between the sea and the fjord, offers lovely views all around. Splendid view from the top of Nørre Lyngvig lighthouse 5km away.
