Rune stones

The two rune stones stand in front of the church (12C), which is flanked by a pair of burial mounds and embellished with ancient frescoes. The inscriptions on the small and large stones, respectively, indicate that "King Gorm made this monument in memory of Thyra, his wife, Denmark's adornment" and "King Harald ordered this monument made in memory of Gorm, his father, and Thyra, his mother; that Harald who won for himself all of Denmark and Norway and made the Danes Christians" in 980. Jelling is a UNESCO world heritage site.
